Google Stitch 2.0 Review: Vibe Design, AI-Native Canvas, and What It Actually Does Well
A hands-on review of Google Stitch 2.0: Google Labs' AI UI design tool for turning prompts, images, sketches, and voice into editable interface concepts and front-end output. What changed, what it does well, who it's for, and how it compares to Figma, Framer, and Uizard.

What Is Google Stitch?
Google Stitch is Google Labs' AI UI design tool for turning prompts, images, sketches, and now voice input into editable interface concepts and front-end output. In plain terms, it is a design environment built around intent. Instead of opening a blank canvas and manually arranging sections, cards, buttons, and typography, you describe what you want to build and Stitch generates a structured direction you can refine or export.
The March 18, 2026 update is the point where Stitch starts to feel less like a prompt-to-mockup experiment and more like a real AI-native workspace. Google's own announcement focuses on an infinite canvas, a more capable design agent with Agent Manager, voice-based interaction, a portable DESIGN.md format for design systems, and closer links to developer workflows through MCP and an SDK.
For this review, I used Stitch to design a small multi-page marketing site and a simple SaaS dashboard, tested both text and image input, linked several screens into a clickable flow, and exported the results to both Figma and HTML/CSS. The observations below come from that workflow, cross-checked against Google's documentation and a few credible hands-on reviews.
At the time of writing, Stitch is available free in Google Labs. Usage limits are widely reported at roughly 350 generations per month in Standard mode and 50 in Experimental mode, though, as with most Labs products, quotas can shift.
From Galileo AI to Google Stitch
To understand what Stitch does well, it helps to understand where it came from.
Galileo AI launched in 2022 with a sharp premise: turn natural-language descriptions into polished UI concepts. It quickly built a following among designers, founders, and product people who wanted to get out of blank-canvas mode and into plausible first directions in seconds. Galileo was especially good at that early phase of interface work where speed matters more than precision.
In May 2025, Galileo AI's technology and team were folded into Google's Stitch launch following Google's acquisition of Galileo. The initial Stitch release took that same core idea and rebuilt it on top of Google's Gemini models, adding front-end code export and Figma integration from the start. It also dropped the old paid-tool framing and launched instead as a free Google Labs product.
You can still feel the inheritance. Stitch remains very good at escaping blank-canvas paralysis, generating plausible first passes fast, and helping a team react to something concrete before anyone disappears into component libraries or pixel-level refinement. Version 2.0 does not replace that instinct. It extends it.
What Changed in Version 2.0
Google describes Stitch 2.0 as a rebuild rather than a minor update. In practice, that shows up in a few meaningful ways.
AI-Native Infinite Canvas
The new canvas feels less like a traditional artboard and more like a living workspace where text, screenshots, generated UI, and code snippets can all coexist. You can drop in references, compare directions, and build context around a project instead of treating each generation like an isolated prompt.
That sounds subtle. It is not. Earlier versions felt linear. This one is much better suited to exploration.
New Design Agent and Agent Manager
The updated agent works across the context of the whole project rather than only reacting to the last prompt. Agent Manager makes branching easier too. You can try one layout direction, split into another, and revisit earlier states without losing the thread.
This matters because design work is rarely linear. Stitch is now closer to how real teams actually think: in branches, reversals, and competing directions.
Voice Design
Stitch 2.0 adds voice mode, which lets you talk directly to the canvas. You can ask for a darker version, a mobile variant, a new pricing section, or a more premium tone without stopping to type each request. The agent can also ask clarifying questions before generating, which makes the whole thing feel less like command entry and more like a working conversation.
Instant Prototypes and Flows
The new release supports linking screens into interactive flows. You can connect buttons or links, hit Play, and click through the prototype. More useful still, Stitch can infer the next screen in a flow and generate it for you, which is genuinely helpful when you are mapping onboarding, checkout, or other multi-step experiences quickly.
DESIGN.md
DESIGN.md is one of the more interesting additions. It is a markdown-based format for storing design-system logic: color tokens, type rules, spacing patterns, and component decisions. You can extract a design language from an existing project, store it, and apply it to something new.
That makes design consistency more portable than it usually is in AI tools.
MCP Server and SDK
Stitch 2.0 also connects more cleanly to development workflows through MCP, an SDK, and links into tools like AI Studio. That does not turn it into a full app builder, but it does make it easier to treat Stitch as part of a real design-to-code pipeline rather than a disconnected experiment.
Core Features
Prompt to UI
This is still the heart of the product. You describe what you want, and Stitch generates interface concepts.
The interesting part is not that it works from prompts. A lot of tools do that now. The interesting part is that Stitch is generally good at producing layouts that feel structurally coherent even when the prompt is underspecified. You can start with something broad like a coffee-shop mobile app, or something narrow like a dark-mode dashboard with card-based analytics and a sticky upgrade banner, and usually get something usable enough to react to.
Standard mode prioritizes speed and supports Figma export. Experimental mode leans into newer capabilities, richer input, and deeper reasoning, but with higher latency and stricter limits.
Sketch and Image Input
Stitch works from more than text. You can upload a whiteboard sketch, a low-fidelity wireframe, or a screenshot of an existing interface and use that as a starting point. For early concept work, that is extremely practical. It means rough thinking does not need to be cleaned up before it becomes useful.
Figma Export and Code Export
This is one of Stitch's strongest advantages. The output does not end at the image.
Figma export gives designers something editable to refine in a tool they already trust. HTML/CSS export gives developers a front-end scaffold instead of a static reference. You would not ship complex product work straight from Stitch without cleanup, but it shortens the distance between concept and implementation in a way many AI design tools still do not.
Design Systems and DESIGN.md
Every Stitch project sits on top of a generated design system, whether you consciously build one or not. Colors, type scales, spacing, and component logic are there from the start. DESIGN.md makes those decisions reusable. That is where Stitch starts to feel more serious.
Multi-Screen Flows and Prototypes
Unlike earlier AI design tools that were basically one-screen generators, Stitch 2.0 can work across flows. You can create several screens in one project, link them, preview them, and ask the agent to generate contextually plausible next steps.
That makes it much more useful for real product conversations.
Where It Actually Performs Well
Branding Exploration
If you are trying to pressure-test a visual language across different surfaces, Stitch is genuinely useful. You can apply a type and color system, generate multiple directions, and see how the same identity behaves across marketing pages, product screens, and forms without rebuilding the same logic from scratch each time.
Early-Stage Prototyping for Non-Designers
This may be the clearest use case. Founders, PMs, and developers who do not want to live inside Figma can move from a rough idea to a discussable visual direction in minutes. That removes friction from the earliest stage of product thinking, where too much of the work usually stays trapped in docs and vague conversations.
Design-to-Dev Handoff Compression
Stitch reduces the dead air between "we have a direction" and "someone can build this." One path goes through Figma for refinement. Another goes through code export for scaffolding. Either way, the handoff is shorter.
User Flow Ideation
The ability to generate what comes next in a flow is more valuable than it first appears. For onboarding, checkout, and other simple product journeys, Stitch can produce a chain of screens that holds together well enough for review, feedback, and even early user testing.
Google Ecosystem Integration
Teams already working in Google's ecosystem will find Stitch easier to absorb than many alternatives. The workflow fit is not perfect, but it is close enough to lower resistance.
Limitations Worth Knowing
Output Homogeneity
Stitch can generate good-looking work quickly, but a lot of that work shares familiar structural DNA. Dashboards tend to look like dashboards. Hero sections tend to look like hero sections. That is useful for speed, less so for originality.
Distinctive identity still requires human intervention.
Accessibility Gaps
Stitch does not guarantee accessibility. Contrast can be weak. Hit areas can be too small. Focus states are not something you should assume are production-ready. Anything that moves toward launch still needs a proper accessibility review.
Front-End Only
Stitch generates interface work and front-end scaffolding. It does not handle backend logic, real data models, or complex application state. If that is the job, you are looking at another category of tool entirely.
Limited Complex Interaction Design
You can prototype simple flows and states, but nuanced motion, detailed micro-interactions, and production-level interaction behavior still require more traditional tools or direct coding.
Labs Status and Roadmap Risk
Because Stitch is part of Google Labs, it is experimental by nature. That is good for innovation and generous access. It is less reassuring if you want to build your entire long-term workflow around it.
How It Compares to Alternatives
The easiest mistake here is to ask whether Stitch replaces Figma. It does not. The more useful question is where it fits relative to the other AI design and AI coding tools people are actually using.

Among the better-known tools in this category, Stitch is unusually generous on free access right now. That matters because AI design tools get more useful when you can explore several directions without feeling every generation as a cost event.
Its position is also fairly distinct. Stitch is more design-first than v0 or Lovable, more general-purpose than Framer AI, and more multimodal than many of the smaller UI-generation tools clustered around screenshots and wireframes.
That does not make it the best tool for everyone. It does make it one of the more interesting ones.
Who Should Use It
Founders and product managers: If you need to turn an idea into something visible, brief a designer, or put alternative flows in front of stakeholders quickly, Stitch is a strong fit.
Designers doing branding and identity work: For designers exploring system direction across multiple surfaces, Stitch can save real time. It is not the last word. It is a very good first pass.
Developers: Front-end developers who often end up designing as they go can use Stitch as a scaffold generator and variation engine. The code will still need judgment. But starting with something concrete beats starting from zero.
Agencies and client-facing teams: This is one of the better use cases. Agencies often need to show directional work before investing in full design production. Stitch is well suited to that stage.
Google ecosystem teams: If your workflows already sit inside Google's tools, Stitch enters the stack with less friction than many competing products.

It also means the last 20% still belongs to designers and developers.
And that is fine.
The most practical workflow here is not ideological. It is simple: generate in Stitch, refine in Figma, implement in code.
